I have just finished an epic journey of four concerts in nine days. Why would I embark on this? The answer is simple: ‘Because I can.’
It all started with a beer fest and bands happening in the area. So I bought a ticket. Next thing, Al Green has signed up to come to NZ for the first time ever. So I bought a ticket. Then an all day concert on an island was advertised. So I bought a ticket. Then an annual ‘must see’ reggae concert with international legends entices me. So I bought a ticket.
All of these musical events happen to be within nine days of each other. So like a crazed moth to the back porch light, I was drawn. I danced, jived, grooved, swayed, and rocked out to all of them. 36 bands and artists later, and every one of them were worth it.
I have; taken a ferry ride to an island, drank over-priced wine, squatted in dingy toilet cubicles, danced in the rain like nobody was watching, strained my calf muscles, eaten way too many hot dogs, laughed at intoxicated people doing the 1,2, stumble-step, made judgments on peoples clothing choices, waved my hands in the air like I just didn’t care, excessively foot-tapped, closed my eyes and felt the music, waited eternities in long queues, taken not so award winning photos, and just generally had a wicked time with some equally as wicked friends.
The day after this concert madness and I am feeling a little bit sad that this has come to an end. Now I am left wondering what my next adventure will be.
