Expect the Unexpected – 2012 in a Nutshell.

I look over at my dresser in anticipation of opening up ‘The Daily Hunk’ (a bargain basement 2013 calendar purchase offering me a hot-man-a-day – exciting!), and reflect on the year that’s been. It’s been another one of those crazy roads with twisty windy hills and surprise turns; great road trips and major road blocks. Here’s a snippet of my year in a big fat nut shell:

Shit I thought I’d never have to deal with:

–        Losing my older brother to his own demons.

–        Spending time with my dad who has terminal cancer.

Countries stamped in my new passport:

–        USA, Scotland, Ireland, England, France & Japan.

Ticked off the bucket list:

–        New York City – So amazing, I want to live there.

–        France – So amazing, I want to live there.

–        Tokyo – Years of learning Japanese was actually for some benefit.

–        Fishing on a boat – Awesome even though I may have been hung over.

Amazing stuff that I couldn’t have dreamt up in my wildest dreams:

–        Having champagne bought for me in New York City, while out in the Meatpacking District.

–        Cruising the NYC harbour on a sailboat on Mr T’s day at sunset. A madly orange sun splash jumped out through the grey clouds just as we passed the Statue of Liberty.

–        Surviving my worst hangover ever in Ireland after ridiculous amounts of Guinness at a wedding then managing to get on a plane without throwing up.

–        Having high tea at The Ritz in London, for my birthday.

–        Moving into a house where I have an ensuite and a walk-in wardrobe to display all of my lovely shoes.

Hilarious moments:

–        Surprising New Yorkite businessmen by having my given tequila and espresso shot in one go instead of casually sipping it like a lady.

–        Randomly engaging in banter with comedians on the Royal Mile in Edinburgh, during the Fringe Festival (this may have happened during the self-appointed whiskey tour).

–        Recording a song (my singing is shit) about an inflated remote controlled shark that lurked around my office for a while.

–        An awkward doctor visit.

–        Telling the hotel room neighbours in London to pipe down while wearing my giraffe onesie, because “I needed some sleep in the Serengeti.”

–        Accidently whacking a woman in the head from behind when she was in my photograph personal space bubble at the Golden Gate Bridge.

Random stuff:

–        Helping out behind the scenes with an attempt for a record breaking skinny dip.

–        Watching Nathan’s Hotdog eating contest at Coney Island.

–        Taking a tambourine out into bars and starting tambourine-fuelled dance parties.

–        Going to a cat show.

–        4 concerts in 6 days.

–        Casually walking through the Castro District in San Francisco and trying not to flinch at the unexpected naked man sunscreening his pecker.

–        Going on a porno studio tour, also in San Fran.

So here I am having survived another heart-breaking year and with some spectacular super awesome moments. I have the most amazing friends that I’ve stayed with, partied with, laughed with and cried with, all across the globe & a fabulous family too! I’m about to end the year, just the way it begun, with a glass of wine in my hand. And tomorrow I’ll be able to rip into The Daily Hunk – Hello 2013!
